Ch. 2, Fathers and Daughters
"'The first thing I did was tell mlyself that it was my duty to survive-to take care of my famiy and my farm. That is a tricky job in wartime. It's as hard as being a soldier. The Moraccans were very savage. One day the rumor passed that they were coming to destroy the village. You may remember the night I sent you and your brothers and sisters away with your mother to Danang'" (31). This quote is Le Ly's father Trong. Le Ly learned numerous things from her father. The scale went from their heritage to the farm and the war to how to survive. This quote made me think of what my parents would do for me. I know for a fact they would go through the same troubles Trong went through to keep his family safe. My INFERENCE is that parents share the same instincts when it comes to their children. This is based off the events of the story and the experiences in my own life. The war is showing what a father would do for his family. Alos, the movie "Mulian" comes to my mind, even though Mulian is the one fighting for her father. This just goes to show the pride and honor people have for their families. Mulian dresses as a man so she can fight in the war because her father is now to old. Mulian's determination reminds me of the lessons Le Ly is learning from her own father.
